If the peace and quiet just gets too much for you, Appin is located in the ideal location for day trips and activities. Halfway between Oban "Gateway to the Isles" and Fort William "Outdoor Capital of the UK" the dramatic mountain landscape of Glencoe and the remote, idyllic islands are all within easy reach.

There are departures to the islands from Oban on a daily basis, including Mull, Iona, Staff, Coll and Colonsay. Coastal Connections offer a very comfortable service on their cruiser and are available for private charter. They do day trips to Tobermory for example, a great day out taking in some fantastic scenery.

Another great way of exploring the area is to photograph some wildlife with Philip Price who runs local company Loch Visions. He offers day trips to some stunning locations, and provides all the equipment for the day as well as a pretty impressive packed lunch!

Further north in Fort William, try your hand at the World Cup downhill mountain bike course at Neviis Range. There are lots of lower level trails to choose from as well, suiting all abilities. Other nearby activities include whitewater rafting & canyoning, indoor and outdoor ice-climbing and abseiling.

The west coast is ideal for sea kayaking and there are numerous guides located near the pod. Or enjoy a relaxing ride out to Castle Stalker (if the tide is out) with Lettershuna Riding Stables, just down the hill
